Welcome to our class.

My name is Brent Calvert, this is my 20th year teaching and I am excited to have your child in my class.
My goal this year is to help your child improve his/her chances of success on the HSAP test, which is required for graduation in all South Carolina High Schools. This will require hard work from myself, your child and you. If your child is to succeed in passing this test, it will take a joint effort from all of us. I will do everything in my power to help your child be successful, as I know you will. Should you need to contact me, you can call 941-5600 or e-mail me at  calvertb@gwd50.org

Our class is broken into three components that will enable us to best teach your child. Each component is vital to their success. Below is the breakdown of components:

Warm-up:
24-30 minutes; during this time we will work on basic Math and English skills that will allow your
child to get the day started in the right direction.

Daily Objective:
25-35 minutes; during this time we will work on specific HSAP objectives, which come directly from the HSAP Coach textbook.

Correction/Practice:
30-35 minutes; during this time we will work on skills from your child's other classes. This is the time when they can get help with work they are having difficulty with. This is also the time when they can make-up work they have missed due to absence, etc. During this time, I will have an opportunity to work one-on-one with your child. They may also work on homework from other classes. I allow this because it allows them to ask questions if they don't quite understand the work. If you prefer they do their homework at home with you, please make me aware of this.

Thank you,
Brent Calvert
