  • Honors texts include: Glencoe LiteratureWuthering Heights, Things Fall Apart, Night, Antigone, and Macbeth. Homework assignments are from World Literature.
  • Vocabulary is completed weekly in every class.
  • Included in writing assignments are descriptive, expository, narrative, persuasive, personal, and research. We average one essay each month.
  • We are using Michael Clay Thompson’s four-level analysis for grammar which includes parts of speech, parts of the sentence, phrases, clauses and sentence structure.

ROUTINES:
  • Each day when students enter class, the agenda is posted on the dry erase board. In addition, class begins with Power Skills on the overhead; sheets are collected monthly for a grade.
  • Students are given blank two-month calendars on which they may input due dates for assignments. This same information is posted on the dry erase calendar.
  • Students receive time during the block to read class novels/plays or books of choice and answer associated questions; due dates and worksheets are handed out in advance.
  • Class time is set aside daily for students to work on vocabulary exercises.
  • The lowest class work grade is dropped at the nine weeks for every student.
  • The lowest test grade is dropped at the nine weeks for those students whose participation grades are an “A” average with the exception of honors level.
  • Grade sheets are sent home with a student's average approximately once every three weeks.  Parents/guardians are to sign and return for a grade.
