Welcome to my webpage!

This year I will be teaching the GED/Options III program to young men and women who have decided not to work toward receiving a high school diploma upon exiting Ponchatoula High School.  These students will be provided with the basic academic needs in English Language Arts (ELA), math, and reading.  These classes will be offered in a three-hour block with the remainder of the day focused on interest assessments until such time as job placements can be made in the community.  If the student works hard and does well, he or she will be eligible to take the GED examination and, if passed, will receive a Louisiana Equivalency Diploma.

In connection with the academic classes for the GED program, I will be teaching the GED P.A.E.S. Lab.  During this class, students will be assigned a variety of jobs to perform in four basic employment areas.  In this way, they can determine what types of jobs they are most interested in and focus in on a career preference.  All GED courses are on a Pass/Fail basis.

Functional Language provides instruction  in basic english skills.  Students will learn the parts of speech, parts of a sentence, how to write compete sentences, and to write clearly and concisely.  The instruction will also include English skills that are relevant to the work place, such as how to write a resume, a job application letter, how to complete job applications, and how to read the employment section of a newspaper in order to find job openings.  Students will also learn how to conduct themselves when applying for jobs and job interviews.

I hope this brief description will help you understand what your child is doing in my class.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me through the email address at the top of this webpage.

I hope that we can all work together to provide your child with the best possible education, and with your help at home, we should be able to accomplish that goal.
