FAQs

How can I help my child make 3rd grade successful?

1.  Check and sign your child's planner nightly for homework and

     behavior.

2.  Ensure your child completes all homework.  Check homework

for accuracy and help them with any challenging concepts.

3.  Ensure your child is reading nightly for approximately 20

minutes. Sit with your child and listen for fluency.   Ask your

child to retell the story to you and use the 5ws+ H to question

     them on their reading.

4.  Use flash cards to help your child master their basic addition,

     subtraction, multiplication, and division facts.

Where should my child be academically this year?

In reading-

1.  Your child should be reading books that are between 3.0 and

3.9 on the AR chart.  If your child is already reading above

that level, they should continue to work toward a higher level.

If your child is reading below that level, it is recommended

that your child be practicing daily, on just right books, for 60

minutes until they reach their desired levels.

2.  Your child should be able to retell, summarize, compare and

contrast story elements, tell the main idea, use context clues,

find details, make inferences, order events chronologically, and

tell the problem and solution of stories.

In math-

3.  Your child should be able to compute basic math facts quickly,

complete problems with multiple steps, use key words, and

solve words problems with a written explanation.
