Dear Parents,
We have welcomed a new student to our class last week, his name is Blake!
We will be having our class Valentine's Day Party on Friday, Feb. 12th. I will be sending home notices to the parents who volunteered, on Open House Night, to send in items for it on Monday, Feb. 1st. Just to let you know, my valentine card rule is that the children don't have to bring in cards, but if they choose to, there should be one for everyone in the class. I will send home a name list on Monday, as well. Thank you so much for your help.
As the FCAT approaches, and your child starts to worry, please help them to understand that they have been well prepared for this. We will continue to prepare all this month by reading and practicing our skills, as usual. I also want to encourage you to have them practice for 15-20 minutes each night on the FCAT EXplorer site listed below. As I have stated before, it has shown to be quite helpful to students in the past.
If you have any questions about your child's progress, please call me at 458-0033 ex. 314 or email me at JanetAO@leeschools.net. I'd be happy to talk to you, or set up a conference.
Please keep checking back to get our latest news!
Happy Valentine's Day!
Mrs. Opp

What we are learning this month:
Reading: We will begin our 2nd semester reader this week. Our theme for Unit 4 is "Determination." Our stories include learning about perseverance, working hard towards goals, and how to handle discouragement. We are also continuing to learn and practice our reading skills: fact and opinion, compare and contrast, cause and effect, and author's purpose.
Language Arts: We are learning the correct forms and usage of such irregular verbs as: come, do, say, go, run, see, give, eat, sing, be, and have. This will also include helping and linking verbs.
Math: The children are really enjoying our "Rhymes and Times," multiplication program. We are also learning about polygons and solid figures.
Science: We have begun learning about erosion, earthquakes, volcanoes, and glaciers.
Social Studies: We are learning about communities. *****************************************************************************
