 READING

We are finishing Unit 2 in our reading textbook. At the end of each unit, students complete a Show What You Know assessment that has all of the skills taught during the unit.  Students are encouraged to read each question carefully, identify what the question is asking and look at all answer choices before making a decision.
We are also working on cereal box book reports in class during literacy workstation time.  Hopefully, with continued practice, students will start thinking critically about what they are reading and be able to analyze plot, setting, character, and problem/solution.

MATH
We are still doing Mad Minute every Friday to assess multiplication mastery.  Our class average has increased to 89% but our goal is 91%.  Please encourage your child to practice their facts any chance they get.  We are finishing up Chapter 2 which has to do with addition and subtraction of whole numbers and money.

WRITING
We are now learning to identify expository writing prompts, complete a graphic organizer, and actually write expository pieces.  Students are still becoming familiar with format.  It will help with their writing if they avoid words like good, bad, awesome, cool, and great in everyday language.  Encourage them to use other descriptive, more specific words.

My philosophy in learning
I believe every child learns differently and I strive to cater to each child's learning style and speed.  I want every student in my room to feel safe, challenged, and heard.  I strongly believe in the parent-teacher relationship and I encourage regular communication.  I will try to write notes in each student's planner so please check this daily. Please feel free to write back!
Please check our class website regularly as I will try to update biweekly!
I like to give a snack midday to the class so brains don't starve.  I will provide some of the snacks but donations to the class are very much appreciated.  Snacks such as crackers, pretzels, or graham crackers are preferred.  I encourage each child to bring water bottles each day as well.
Everyday I strive to improve, enhance, and challenge each one of my students academically as well as socially.
