Welcome to First Grade!

 

 

Dear Parents and Guardians:

Welcome!! Orangewood Elementary School utilizes the Spaulding Phonogram program. Using the Spaulding Phonogram as a foundation, we practice spelling, handwriting and most importantly, reading. Under the reading tab, you will find a link to the school board website and practice for Spaulding Phonograms.

First Grade brings about great changes in your child's learning. Your child will learn to independently log in and take AR tests on the computer at school. Your child will be asked to read picture books and take at least two or three AR tests on those books each week. Please, read and discuss the stories with your child. Studies show that the more involved parents are, the more successful students are in school.

 

By the end of first grade, your child will also become fluent in addition and subtraction facts. We will be practicing addition and subtraction facts each day and taking speed tests.

 

Science and Social Studies will support our math and reading work.

You will be learning addition and subtraction, and you will be REALLY FAST at those math facts!

YOU will be getting ready for second grade!
