This grand show is eternal. It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never all dried at once; a shower is forever falling; vapor ever rising. Eternal sunrise, eternal sunset, eternal dawn and gloaming, on seas and continents and islands, each in its turn, as the round earth rolls.
-John Muir

Welcome to 6th Grade Earth Science. The school year will be separated into different units involved with the study of science and Earth science specifically. Units will include
Lab safety, the scientific method and the metric system
Rocks and minerals
Weathering and soil creation,
erosion and deposition
Plate tectonics
-(including earthquakes and volcanoes)
The water cycle
Ocean topography currents, waves, and tides
Earth's seasons,climate, and weather
The solar system, gravity, moon phases,
and eclipses
Natural resources, renewable/nonrenewable
resources, and human impacts on the Earth
We re beginning investigation into natural resources. This process leads us into the discussion and exploration of the topics of minerals, rocks, and the rock cycle. Along with class discussion, educational videos, and labs students will be gathering additional knowledge from Chapter 3 in the Holt text.
We are using a LabAids text for lab activities and a Holt Earth Science text for supplemental content information. Each student will receive a home copy of the Holt text for the school year. Earth Science education is a combination of content knowledge and hands-on investigation through labs, modeling, technology exercises, and other activities.
Please insure students have a 3-ring binder (1" or 1.5" )
for Science ONLY. This will remain in class for warmups, handouts, notes, worksheets, and other class activities.
Periodically (at least every 2 weeks), there will be a binder quiz.
Students are responsible for completing any assignments missed during excused absences (including warmups).
