I am Ms. Luma, and I am your child's Grade 3 teacher for the 2023-2024 school year at William Shemin Midtown Community School.  I will be working closely with your child to ensure success for each individual student.  Our goal is to work together to provide a successful learning environment both at school and at home.   Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have.  You can always reach me via email or a note in your child's MCS assignment pad.   My e-mail address is:  [email protected],  Remember, here at Midtown all we are saying is: we are the home of the DEN:             Dedicated

                  Educated

                  Nurtured GO BEARS!!

This year we are so pleased to be working with a brand new literacy program, My View from Savaas Realize.  You may notice the textbook is soft and no longer a hard cover.  The children have been enjoying diving right into our new series and reading our first traditional tale, Grandma and the Gourd..  While we will continue to utilize My View, beginning second marking period we will read one novel per marking period.  Next marking period our novel is:   Third Grade Angels, more information to follow.

Our math series this year is:  GO MATH!  Go Math  is intended to promote a higher level of thinking for our little learners.  I have attached the welcome letter for parents below for the new math series.  I will also be sending a hard copy home as well.  Please read at your earliest convenience.  The skills we are focusing on at the moment are rounding to the nearest ten and hundred, as well as place value, estimation, and subtraction.
