7th Grade English Language Arts
Dear Parents and Students,
The end of the year is in sight! Implementing the balanced literacy model, we are working on developing reading skills and applying reading strategies to gain a deeper understanding and enjoyment of text. We are currently working on applying our reading strategies and exploring theme and characterization through the novel The City of Ember. The students will also be developing their own personal utopia, gathering inspiration from the book. In addition to teaching Language Arts, I also serve as the school Reading Specialist. In my role as Reading Specialist at Olson, I serve as an advocate for literacy as well as a resource for students, teachers, and parents in the Tabernacle community. My focus is to foster within the students a love for reading, writing and learning, preparing them for achieving their present and future goals. In addition, it is my hope that students will find the lifelong joy that comes in simply curling up with a good book!
Within the classroom, I work alongside teachers at every grade level to help students meet their individual academic potential in accordance with the state standards. Students will be given the proper tools and support through best practices in the Language Arts classroom. Instruction will be geared toward the students’ individual learning styles and needs. If you have any questions or conerns please do not hesitate to contact me using the information listed below. Finally, please encourage students to keep up their weekly reading (60+ minutes a week).
