Welcome to Mrs. Metzler's 2nd Grade Class
Reader’s & Writer’s Workshop:
April is National Poetry Month and the second graders will become poets creating their own types of poetry during our Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop. Children are learning how some poems can rhyme following an AABB format or an ABAB format and how some poems may not rhyme. They have learned that the lines in a poem are called a stanza. Poems can be funny or not funny.
Our poets will create rhyming poems, cinquains, alliterations, and haikus.
Cinquains: nouns, verbs, adjectives
Alliterations: same beginning letter for each word in the poem
Haiku: Japanese poetry based on syllables (5-7-5 format)
