It's off to Philadelphia we go...
As we wrap up our Social Studies unit for the year, we find that the Continental Army has won the Revolutionary War. We are now declared The United States of America! What better way to end our studies than visiting the very place the Declaration of Independence was written and signed. Our 5th grade class trip to Historic Philadelphia is Tuesday, June 8th. We will see and visit places like the Liberty Bell, Constitution Center, Franklin Court, Elfreth's Alley, Christ Church, and of course, Independence Hall. It's so great to see the students get excited about seeing and visiting the places we have just learned about in class! It will be a fun and enriching day for all!
Wow, what a 3rd marking period! I am so proud of the students. Several achieved Honor Roll and a few achieved Principal's List. The students are hard workers! There is always room for improvement, so I will continue to encourage the students to be more conscientious workers and to strive to do better.

I'll keep the list of supplies here for you just in case you want to check it. A few suggestions for the year include the following:
* a 7 or 8-pocket plastic expandable file folder (great for organizing papers! Can be found at Target or Walmart.)
* 2 hard cover marble composition notebooks (for Math/Writer's Notebook)
* a zippered soft pencil case to have pencils ready for class (hard cases do not fit in the desk well)
* 1 package of lined index cards (100 count)
* erasable blue or black pens (no permanent ink)
* 1 highlighter
* personal size hand sanitizer
I thank you for your assistance in preparing your child for school. One of the aspects we will stress this year is how being prepared for class helps to improve learning.
