Welcome to the Wonderful World of Reading!
"It is books that are the key to the wide world; if you can't do anything else, read all that you can....Jane Hamilton"
Please encourage your children to read. With a book in hand, so many adventures await them, and they will always have a good friend nearby.
READING
WELCOME TO FOURTH GRADE ENGLISH-LANGUAGE ARTS (ELA)!!
I am thrilled about teaching your children and having the opportunity to get them interested and excited about reading!! The best advice that I can offer to help your children improve their reading ability is to have them read, read, and read. With practice - comes fluency, and with fluency comes better reading comprehension and improved self-esteem. Reading from many different genres will help to prepare them for this year's LEAP test as well as for their future.
In Reading - For the week of Aug. 30 - Sept. Sept. 3 we will be reading Donavan's Word Jar,
and we will be working on Story Elements, Prefixes and Suffixes, as well as Synonyms and Antonyms. Notice that to the left of my website is a main menu. On this menu please select the story "Donavan's Word Jar" and it will take you to a link that offers practice for this week's story and skills.
LANGUAGE
In Language - For the week of Aug. 30 - Sept. 3 we will continue working on two of the four types of sentences: Declaratives (statements) and Interrogatives (questions).
Once we have covered the four types of sentences, I will post websites for practice.
