Welcome Students and Parents,
Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year! I hope everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing summer break. I am the physical education teacher at Lyman Hall. I have been teaching at Lyman Hall Elementary for thirteen years. I am excited about the upcoming school year and I hope everyone is ready to get to work.
Please remember students must wear tennis shoes in order to participate. Students must dress appropriately for physical education class. It is important that all students are dressed in accordance to the Liberty County Board of Education Dress Code Policy. Students who have on shorts or pants with belt loops must have a belt. Female students are allowed to wear dresses or skirts to PE but they must have a pair of shorts underneath.
We have a lot of exciting events coming up during the school year. The Presidential Fitness Test, Jump Rope for Heart and Field day to name a few. Here are a few important dates to put on your calendar: Jump Rope for Heart will be on February 16th. Each grade level will come into the gym during their normal "specials" time. Field Day will be held on the following dates: April 25th for students in grades K and 1, April 26th for grades 4 and 5, April 27th for grades 2 and 3. Please remember mark these dates on your calendar.
In addition to PE this year, I will be teaching the students Health Education. Students will participate in group, individual, and team activities that will be reinforcing the health lesson being taught. Students will be taught Health following the Georgia Performance Standards for Health Education. Please feel free to click on the link for more information. Students will be assessed on the material taught to make sure they have satisfied the objective. Students will receive the same letter grade as in Physical Education. Health is a great way for us to teach students about good food choices, learning about our bodies, and making good choices. Please help me in educating our children.
***Please Check the Health Test tab and than click calendar to find out about tests and assignments.
I have enclosed a website that has some very healthy recipes and their easy to make. The recipes are updated weekly. So please enjoy! The obesity rates in our adolescents has increased substancially over the last decade. This can be overcome by students eating properly and getting regular exercise. You can accomplish this through sports, playing with friends, or just running around the house. Whatever you choose to do be sure to GET ACTIVE! I have enclosed a website that parents may find helpful. It has lots of recipes. It is updated every week.

Parents, this year the state of Georgia is making it mandatory for all schools to do an annual fitness assessment. The assessment will be referred to as the "fitness gram." I have provided a link to allow you to read about it. At Lyman Hall Elementary we do a fitness assessment already (President Fitness Test). So this should not cause the students any surprise.
