Mrs.Guillermo's Third Grade Class
Welcome!
2012-2013
Mission: "Learning Comes First"
Vision: Students are literate and responsible citizens.
Homework
Homework is critical to maintaining skills. It helps students to practice, and review skills taught in class. Please set aside a time and a place for your child to complete his or her homework asssignments. Homework is given daily from Monday through Thursday and occasionally on weekends for special project. I highly encourage for your child to read nightly for at least 20 minutes or more. Your child can read independently, with a parent, or be read to. I also recommend to study daily math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using flash cards or educational websites. Homework sheet is given at the beginning of each week.
Supplies
Students are expected to arrive to school daily with the necessary materials. Paper and pencils are essential. Please check your child daily or weekly that he or she has sufficient supplies. Throughout the year, I may ask for additional supplies for special projects.
Attendance
Students are allowed to enter the classroom at 7:20 a.m. Instructional day begins promptly at 7:40 a.m. Tardiness to school is lost instruction. Please try to be on time. If your child is absent, please send in guardian or doctor's note.
If your child is absent 3 or more days, send a doctor's note.
Discipline/Communication
Please encourage your child to be on his or her best behavior everyday. Please check homework folder daily for homework, weekly progress report, school newsletter, I Care Forms, and other documents that may require your signature.
Educational Websites
On the main menu tab, there are links to great educational websites which your child can practice their skills in math, science, reading, social studies, and language arts. Some websites require a username and password such as educationcity, studyisland, tenmarks, xtramath, and Georgia OAS.
Accelereated Reader
AR is a reading program whereby students K-5 will be able to take a comprehension test on the library books they have read. Students are allowed to check out 2 books at the school media center. Every 9 weeks your child will set a reading goal. If your child meets his or her reading goal and pass the book with 85% or higher, your child will be able to receive incentives from the school for meeting his or her goal. I highly encourage your child to participate.
Questions/Concerns
Due to classroom obligations, teachers are not available for important meetings in the hall or during instructional time. Staying on task during instructional time is a high priority for the children and teacher. Please keep in mind that you are welcome to schedule a conference. Whenever you have questions or concerns, please call the school at 884-3326 and leave a message, send a note with your child, or email me at nguillermo@liberty.k12.ga.us. For questions or concerns about reading or social studies, please email Mrs.Pope lpope@liberty.k12.ga.us.
