Welcome to fifth grade. This year I will be teaching science to all fifth grade students. I am looking forward to having a great year working with your child. We will be learning many new things as the year progress. All students will need a 3-ring binder and a composition tablet.
For the next 2 weeks we will be working on standards S5P2 ( B,C) and S5P3.A (Physical Science). Students will be able to design a complete, simple electric circuit, and explain all necessary components, identify insulators and conductors of electricity, and communicate the differences between the purpose of an electromagnet and a magnet. From time to time students may have reading assignments and vocabulary study for homework.
There will be very little homework assignments. Students will need to study for assessments or finish incomplete assignments that was not completed during class. Test are administered at the end of the week. (usually on Friday)
Conferences can be scheduled on Monday, Tuesday,and Thursday from 8:00 to 8:30 or 2:30 - 3:00. Send a note on Class Dojo to your child's homeroom teacher to set up a conference time . If you cannot keep your appointed time, please let us know.
Conferences will include the entire 5th grade team, so whenever conferences are held, you will meet with all of us unless requested otherwise.
Class dojo will be used as a way to communicate with you and also a way for you to communicate with us. Progress reports will be sent home as scheduled. Also you can track grades by using parent portal. Each student will be given the username and password.
Lunch Schedule
Our lunch time is 11:46 - 12:16. Please feel free to come join your child for lunch. Lunch money is taken up during the morning and turned in to the lunch clerk. Also if you want to celebrate your child's birthday with cupcakes, the cupcakes have to be store bought and served during our lunch time.
Ice cream is sold for $1.00.
