*Ask your 1st grader if they need supplies (ex. cheap headphones or earbuds).  They are needed for individualized learning on the ipad.  Students have to be able to hear the insturctions or questions are spoken, usually not written.

***Remember by the end of 1st grade-->The expectations are that first grade students should be able to:  Read a cold read at 60 WPM, have a lexile level of 190L, know the first 100 Fry/Sight words (without hesitation), write sentences neatly and legibly using proper mechanics (capital letter, word spacing, proper punctuation, adjectives, conjunctions, & prepositions.) Math, basic facts, add and subtract, know numbers 0-120 (in any order), skip counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's.***Please continue to work with your 1st grader on these things.  Thank you .

What we are working on

Reading--> infer and predict, author's purpose, conclusions, using contextcompare and contrast, cause & effect, parts of a story [story elements] (setting, characters, beginning, middle, end), types of story (real or fiction), main idea, key details, parts of a book, asking questions about the story,  sequencing, finding infromation in the text, what happened (first, then, next, finally)

Language-->     prepositions/phrasees, compound words, verb tesnse, compound sentences, interrogatives, homophones, subject verb agreement, using capital letters correctly, correct end mark, naming & telling parts, types of a sentences,  nouns, pronouns,  nouns,  verbs,adjectives

Writing-->  writing name, beginning a sentence with a capital letter, and ending with an end mark,  what happened (first, then, next, finally) writing an opinion, narrative, informational writing, researching facts.

Math -->  2D & 3D shapes, place valuemeasurement/telling timeaddition & subtractioin strategies, graphing, basic addition, ten frame, bundle ten, tally marks. fill in the the missing numbers (on a chart/number line, adding

Science-->  weather, water cycle, sounds, emergency sounds, high/low, pitch, and soft/loud sounds; animals; weather (types, tools for measurement), seasons, plants (life cycle,  parts), magnets

Social Studies -->  Map reading, Thomas Jefferson, & Ruby Bridges, map skills, where I live [Earth--> North America --> United States--> Georgia--> Hinesville-->(the steet you live on)

Words to Know/Vocabulary Words--> 

Homework {Monday-Thursday, except for reading and studying sight words are daily}--> READ 15 min. everyday! Study spelling, vocabulary, sight words daily!!!!! 

Mon.--> day 1 of spelling and language/math sheets, read for 10-15 min.

Tues.--> day 2 of spelling and language/math sheet, read for 10-15 min.

Wed. --> day 3 of spelling and language/math sheet, read for 10-15 min.

Thurs.--> day 4, of spelling and language/math sheet, read for 10-15 min. 

Fri.--> READ, READ, READ!

Practice reading, writing, & using (at least 3) sight/fry words over the weekend, read book/ Myon (on line).  {Students given sheets with 1-100 Fry [Sight] Words}

Remember-->  *While studying, break it down into small chunks.  Everyday, review from the day before, & then add a new word or fact.

*Fry Words need to be studied daily.  Reading needs to be done daily!!*  Doing small groups (5 of the 100 words at a time) might help. On 1st group of 25 out of a 100.
