Welcome to 6th grade and Everyday Math with Mrs. McLoone! My goal is to provide all students with a hands-on understanding of mathematical reasoning in the world around them. The activities and manipulatives offered in the Everyday Math program are a fun and interactive way to address the individual needs and interests of all my students. We strenghthen our logical reasoning and problem solving strategies by working in various group settings, visiting the computer lab and using a variety of Avid methodologies like Cornell Notetaking, Socratic Seminars and Interactive Notebooks to record, discuss and collaberate in our learning.
Short and long term projects will be designed and supplemented into our program to reflect and spiral the skills we teach. The Everyday Math program offers alternative algorithms, tiered lesson planning and enrichment activities designed to ensure that the lessons engage and challenge different types of learners. The key to being proficient in mathematical thinking is continuous practice and reinforcement of the skills needed to find solutions with confidence. All academic courses, career choices and life decisions our students will make involve the integration of some form of mathematical understanding. My goal is to better equip my students with the tools needed to think logically and express themelves in a clear, well articulated manner.
