Hi! My name is Mrs. Rita Pettit, and I am your child's language arts teacher! We will be starting off the year by reviewing how to use the NJ Holistic Scoring Rubric, reading the novel Johnny Tremain, and building our writing folders.
During the summer of 2005, I was trained to become an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) teacher. Not all of the students I teach are AVID students, but ALL of my students will benefit from the AVID teaching methodologies that will be utilized in my classroom. For more information about these research based and "proven to be successful" teaching strategies, please come to our "Back to School Night"!
Your child will be expected to come to class prepared and ready to learn. Checking your child's agenda, homework, and notebook nightly is a good habit to develop; it will keep you informed of what is happening in your child's language arts life! This daily ritual will also help you to help your child be prepared and successful throughout his or her transition to the middle school way of life. Please use Gradespeed to keep track of your child's progress and homework completion.
