  4. You will have a test worth 100-150 points every week or two.
  5. Our class will have several labs, worth 50-100 points each.
  6. Our class will have several special projects during the semester. These projects will be worth between 100-200 points, and are mandatory. You will be given ample notification of these projects and plenty of time to complete them. You need to work on and turn in all of these in order to pass.
  7. Use the parent command center to check absences and grades.
  8. 8.    All make-up tests and test-recovery tests must be taken in the library, and completed by the Friday following the original test.
  9. Classes have the option to retake chapter tests on which students have achieved a grade of 74% or lower. Test recovery must be done in accordance with the following test recovery guidelines. Test recovery must be done in the library, and completed by the Friday following the original test.

Assessment Recovery is a type of classroom intervention that allows students to recover a failing grade on a summative assessment.

  1. The opportunity is offered to all students scoring below 75% on any summative assessment.
  2. Students who refuse to take a test, cheat on a test, leave a test more than 75% blank, or do not put forth effort as determined by the classroom teacher are not eligible for test recovery.
  3. Students who score below 35% on an assessment will need teacher permission to participate in recovery opportunities.
  4. Remediation is required before students may attempt assessment recovery. This remediation can be offered on an individual basis by working directly with the student’s teacher or through the free daily tutoring as outlined on the NISH tutoring schedule.
  5. The highest re-score that can be attained through assessment recovery is a 75% C.
  6. Students are only allowed one (1) opportunity to recover an assessment.
  1. Both on-level and honors classes have the option to recover a failing 4.5 weeks grade in accordance with the following guidelines:

Grading Period Recovery is a type of classroom intervention that allows for students to recover an “F” earned for a marking period.  General guidelines  include:

  1. Students will engage in virtual instruction that is prescribed by the classroom teacher. Any student wishing to recover a grading periodshould see Mrs. Rabeaux in the library as soon as the failed grading period is completed to enroll and to give themselves as much time as possible to complete the recovery.
  2. In order to recover a marking period grade, the recovery work must be completed by the end of the next grading period.
  3. A “C” is the highest grade that will be awarded for grading period recovery.

Safety in the Laboratory

  1. Safety should always be of prime importance in the science classroom and laboratory. Students must practice safe and appropriate laboratory behavior.
  2. Detailed safety procedures will be taught and tested before any lab activities are conducted. Students must achieve 100% passage of the safety test before participating in any labs.
  3. Students and parents will be required to sign and return a science classroom information and lab safety contract before the student will be allowed to participate in any science labs.

Test Recovery: On-Level Classes only:

  • There is no test recovery for Honors classes
  • If 75% of the test was left blank by the student, he/she will not be eligible to re-test.
  • If a student is caught cheating on a test, the student will not be eligible to re-test.
  • Highest grade achievable on re-test is 75%, provided the student made a “C” or higher on the re-test.
  • Student will have 5 days to re-test.
  • The re-test MAY NOT be the same test as the initial test and may include more constructed response questions.

Science Late Policy for Major Assignments and Projects
