Welcome to both you and your child to fourth grade!

I am looking forward to a very successful and exciting school year.  It is suggested each child to have a school bag or backpack, and bring it to school every day.  Notices and important papers get home safely this way.  Please have them unpack this bag daily, so you can check their papers.  All hard covered textbooks must get covered, and if the cover falls off it must be replaced.

Your child will be bringing home graded and non-graded papers.  The non-graded papers are the ones we do together as a class.  It would be very helpful to go over all papers together to discuss any mistakes, comments, or skills involved.  Please remember that these grades are only part of your child’s grade in each subject.  If your child receives a low grade on a test, quiz, homework, or important paper, it will be stamped with a sign & return.  You must sign it and help your child correct their mistakes, and return it promptly the next day.  Many students view sign and returns as a punishment when it is a way of allowing parents to help their child study or work on an area of weakness.

If your child is absent from school for only one day, they can make up the work when they return,  or you can call and leave a message that you will be picking up the child’s work.  A form will be attached describing the pages needed to be done.  All books, papers, and assignments will be in the office for you to pick up.  It is essential that all books be returned when your child returns to school, since we use them everyday.

Students are required to study and memorize both multiplication and division facts.  Students will practice facts and take timed tests in class.  Parents are encouraged to study frequently with their child.

Students will copy their homework and any announcements in their agenda book.  The agenda book is a communication tool between school and home.  I ask for it to be signed every night and sent to school every day.  Please do not pre-sign any days since the purpose of the signature is to make sure that you are aware of your child’s daily assignments.  Parents are asked to please write any questions, comments, or concerns in the agenda book.  Parents are also asked to look for any communications I may have written and sign your name after you have read it.

I hope you have found this information useful.  Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at school or write to me in the agenda.  With your input and help, I am looking forward to a great year!!
