 Second-Grade-Supply-Lists-2022-2023.pdf

Hello! Thank you for visiting this website! My name is Melissa Freitas, and I am so happy to be teaching second grade this year at Port Colden. Here is a bit of information about myself. On a personal note, I like to spend time crafting, hiking, traveling, and reading. I also enjoy taking my dog, a Chiweenie named Oliver, on long walks to burn off some of his energy!

As for my journey to becoming a teacher, I attended Fairleigh Dickinson University and received a BA in Writing, graduating magna cum laude, and a Master of Arts in Teaching with Elementary Specialization. One of the most incredible educational experiences that I was fortunate enough to have at FDU was being placed in a small primary school near the university's campus in Wroxton, England for a field experience. I was able to observe and teach for a month at the village school and learned so much in the process. Shortly after, I completed my student teaching back in the US in a first grade classroom. I then took on various roles including a kindergarten aide and maternity leave replacements for both fifth and fourth grade positions before having a classroom of my own.

After spending four years teaching fourth grade, I was able to teach first grade for two years here at Port Colden and am excited to begin my fourth year teaching second grade! Instilling a love of learning and building a strong and solid foundation are the main goals that I will strive to accomplish this year. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. You can always contact the main office, especially in the case of an emergency or time sensitive issue, and they will relay the message to me, however, email is usually the most convenient and widely used form of communication. I can be reached at [email protected]. Thank you for your assistance! I know that we will have a terrific year ahead!
