I am anticipating and looking forward to an exciting and successful year. This year we continue our journey throughout the Spanish-speaking world utilizing En Español, published by McDougal Littell, Las Aventuras de Miguelito, and other supplementary materials. Together with will travel to and visit Mexico, Spain, and Ecuador and discover the other Spanish speaking countries. We will prepare for this year-long expedition by starting our year off reviewing and revisiting information we studied last year and discussing some of the other Spanish-speaking countries our book presented us with last year. We will certainly make time to explore any other Spanish-speaking country that interests you as well. The program includes a vast array of interesting topics, authentic culture, and real-life communication designed to motivate students towards developing their mastery of Spanish. Supplementing our program we will use videos, novels, magazines through a variety of mediums to develop the student's oral, listening, and reading skills. Together you, your classmates, and I (Sr. Demarest) will expand our knowledge of world cultures, create a positive atmosphere for learning and practicing Spanish, and discover that a foreign language isn't foreign once you've learned it.
Spanish, especially if/when virtual will be utilizing the Google Classroom platform to post daily and long-term work assignments. Students are expected to practice the skills and methods taught in class and not rely on mechanical means (translator apps) While a ¨new¨ word lookup is reasonable a full sentence and especially one of the words or skills we are practicing is not appropriate.
