I am so excited to be beginning my twentieth year here at Cape Elementary!  I look forward to a fantastic, fun, and successful year.

I graduated from the University of Central Florida in 1990.  I also earned my Masters of Arts in Teaching Leadership degree from Grand Canyon University.  In addition to second grade, I have also taught first and fourth grades.  I have been honored to be a Golden Apple Teacher of Distinction several times and I was also Cape Elementary's Teacher of the Year in 2008.  I am currently the past president of Lee County Literacy Council and I am also on the Board of Directors for the Florida Literacy Association as their Director of Membership.  I am also a member of the International Literacy Association.  I am proud to be the Faculty Advisor for our K-Kids group for the seventeenth consecutive year.

I have been married to my wonderful husband, Jim, for twenty-eight years.  We are the proud parents of four awesome children!!  Alex  is 25 and loves to tinker with his car and watch wrestling.  Nathan is 24 and graduated from the University of Central Florida and lives in Orlando.  Our daughter, Jessa, is 22 and is majoring in art at Florida Gulf Coast University.  She is an amazing artist and photographer!  Finally, our son, Spencer, is 13 and is in eighth grade  at Trafalgar Middle.  He loves video games.  We also have four dogs - Mocha, who is a puggle; and Kuma, Koda, and Kiya, who are Akitas.

I grew up on the Space Coast on Merritt Island.  My father retired from Kennedy Space Center.  It has been very bittersweet to watch the end of the shuttle program.  I remember being at school on the day the first shuttle went up.  My brother and I were two of 12 kids that attended school that day!

In my spare time, which isn't much, I enjoy reading and watching crime shows on TV.  I also enjoy word games and jigsaw puzzles.  You will also learn that I LOVE coffee and anything with stars on it.

I love my job and hope that you will enjoy your year in my classroom.  I promote a safe, challenging, and fun classroom environment.  I hope that if you don't already love to read, that you will love to by the time you move on to third grade!  You will be expected to respect everyone, do your best, and behave according to our classroom and school rules.  It is going to be a great year!!!!
