Assessments

At Cape May City Elementary School, we use various measures to assess our students. These assessments are to ensure that proper program adjustments are made to better assist or challenge your child.

Northwestern Evaluation Association (NWEA) is an adaptive computerized assessment tool that we use to gather information in the areas of Language Arts and Mathematics for each individual student. We refer to these assessments as MAP Testing. MAP stands for Measures of Academic Progress. Once an assessment is completed, students receive an individual RIT score. This RIT score is specific for each individual student. It allows a comparison of growth and academic achievement. Kindergarten through 2nd grade are administered the Reading and Mathematics assessment three times per year. 3rd grade through 6th grade students are administered the Reading, Language Usage, and Mathematics three times per year.

Along with MAP Testing students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade are administered an individual verbal reading assessment. This assessment is through the Acadience Learning Online program. It is administered three times per year to all students in the listed grades and periodically for students selected to be progress monitored.

ALO is designed to help identify students that may be at risk for early reading difficulties by assessing various phonological awareness skills imperative to reading development.

Each Spring the students that have been identified for English Language Services, will complete the ACCESS assessment.
