Badminton Study Guide
Birdie- The shuttlecock.
Backhand- Any stroke made on the side of the body opposite the racket side.
Clear- A high and wide hit, to move back an opponent.
Ace- A serve that completely eludes the opponent.
Drop- A shot made from back court which barely clears the net, dropping sharply.
Forehand- Any stroke made on the racket side of the body.
Rally- Hitting the shuttlecock back and forth across the net.
Serve- Stroke which begins the play for a point or score.
Drive- A fast hard hit, parallel to the ground.
Fault- An attempt to serve or return that falls short, hits the net, or lands outside the playing area.
Smash- A powerful stroke, the kill shot of the game.
Rules:
- If the Birdie lands on the line it is considered in.
- When serving, you must contact the shuttle below the waist.
- When following through on a hit, you are allowed to hit the net with your racket.
- It is considered a fault when the shuttle does not fall within the boundaries of the diagonal court on the serve.
