HOMEWORK POLICY

Homework is assigned to compliment lessons taught in class.  Homework has many purposes.  Many times it is intended to provide independent practice for topics covered in class.  Sometimes homework serves to get the students thinking in preparation for upcoming lessons.

Usually, I do not grade homework.  Students will be notified if an assignment that is completed at home will be graded.

Regular nightly homework will be calculated into students' grades.  Usually, each "page" of homework counts as 1 point.  As long as the student has the homework in class, they receive full credit.  Homework that is not complete or is NOT IN CLASS receives a zero.    Homework that is partially completed may receive partial credit.    I am looking for completion even if some of the answers are wrong.  Work that appears to have been "thrown" down or is incomplete will count as missing.

For each missing assignment, the student will fill out a form explaining the reason they have not completed their work.  Three missing homework assignments in any a marking period result in a lunch detention.  Successive missed assignments will lead to an after school detention.   I will work with the student to determine what is causing assignments to go uncompleted.  Parents will be notified of repeated homework issues in order for us to mutually work out a plan that will enable the student to learn and grow.

Reading of 15-20 minutes 4-5 nights a week is also expected.
