HEM PRE-K

Attendance:  This is an extremely important part of our program. This program is here to prepare students for school and to ultimately raise test scores. We cannot fulfill our job and the regulations of the program if your child is not here. You must be willing to send your child to school. If your child has excessive absences they will be removed from the program. Please do not be absent or tardy. The only excused absence is a doctor's note. Every month I am required to send an attendance report to the school board which is then sent off to the state for their records. Please send all excuses within 1 -2 days of your child returning. If you are tardy, please park your car and walk your child to the office for a tardy pass and then walk your child to the classroom. If your child will be absent please call the office or send me an e-mail. This is not a school policy, but it will help me out.

Behavior Plan:  Our behavior plan consists of positive reinforcement and discipline. Students will be rewarded for exceptional behavior with classroom bracelets. Students who are struggling with meeting expectations will be assigned minutes or laps at recess.  Their behavior will be indicated to you by the color code on the behavior calendar.

Green:  Excellent
Yellow:  Needs Improvement
Red:  Unsatisfactory

Big Day for Pre-K:  This will be the new curriculum that will be implemented this year.  It aligns with Common Core State Standards and IB.  You will have access to the online resources.  We will provide you with a login.

Parental Involvement: Parents are encouraged to volunteer in the classroom. This includes volunteering at parties and on regular school days. This is a great opportunity for you to get involved with your child’s education. There will be many opportunities for you to visit our class and volunteer. I will be sending out more information about volunteering.

Parent / Teacher Conference:  You will be required to attend two scheduled conferences to discuss your child’s progress. One meeting will be in the fall semester and the other in the spring semester. You may also call for a conference at any time during the year.

Visitors on campus:  School security is very important. We want to have a secure environment. Part of our school safety plan is to limit the visitors on our campus. When you come to the campus you are considered a visitor. You will need to go to the office to sign in and receive a pass. Please do not come to class unless you have signed in. The office will call to let me know you are coming.

Transportation:

Morning drop-off time:

8:00 – 8:20 am.  The morning drop off is in the parking lot on the west side of the school (entrance closest to the Pre-K rooms). Duty teachers are present outside and in the hallway to assure that your child makes it to class. Students who arrive at school later than 8:20 are considered tardy and are required to check in at the office before coming to class.

Your child will be given a badge for their book sack on the first day of school with their transportation information on it. They must keep the badge on their book sack all year. It makes it easier for everyone to get to the right place.

Afternoon pick up time:

3:15 – 3:40 pm. Pre-K – 2nd grade afternoon carpool pick up is located in the back (north) of the school. The road to the back of the school is right past the green playground. A teacher will be on duty to assist your child in the car.

Bus

Pre-K students must be accompanied by an adult (not older sibling) to and from the bus stop.  The bus driver will not pick up or drop off a Pre-K student if an adult is not physically present.  If the parent fails to meet the bus in the afternoon the drive will complete the route and return the child to the school or seek the assistance of local law enforcement.  You must contact the bus driver prior to the first day of school.  Your child’s bus driver and contact information can be located on the Tangi Schools website.  Go to Departments, Transportation and then Just For Parents on the left hand column.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU FILL OUT THE TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION SHEET. THIS IS MY MOST IMPORTANT PAGE SO THAT I KNOW HOW YOUR CHILD GOES HOME ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.

Changes in transportation MUST be in writing NOT by word of mouth.  If you send a note it must be in your child’s folder.

First Day of School: Parents will be allowed to walk children to class on the first day of school.

Breakfast: Breakfastwill be served in the classroom each day. If you choose not to purchase school breakfast you may send a healthy breakfast with your child each morning.

Lunch: We will have lunch in the cafeteria. You may purchase lunch from the cafeteria or send your child’s lunch, please include a drink.

Food Services/Billing: Bills indicate what is owed for the next month.

Snack: You will receive a monthly snack calendar indicating your child’s snack day. Please send a healthy snack for 20 students and a gallon of water. Your snack day will also fall on or near your child’s birthday. We do allow for cupcakes on special occasions.

Share Day: Starting in October your child will be allowed to bring an item to share with the class on their snack day. It must be able to fit in the book sack. If you want to make arrangements for larger items or pets please contact me prior to your child’s snack day.

Change of clothes: You must provide us with a change of clothes (must be school uniform) for your child, including socks and underwear. * If your child has an accident at school we will put the dirty clothes in a bag and send them home. You must replace items that were sent home. Please label all clothes with your child’s name.

Nap: The school provides a mat and a cloth mat cover. You will need to send a small thin blanket. We ask you not to send stuffed animals or pillows due to storage.

Screening Schedule:  All students must be screened. This will begin Monday,   Aug. 19th. It will take about 1 hour. Please check in with the office before you come to the classroom.  Parents must be present at screening.

Bathroom / Hygiene:  Students should be able to take care of their personal needs themselves. Hand washing is extremely important. Please practice washing hands at home. We will have lessons on washing our hands, but any help you can give us would be great.

Sneezing: The new sanitary way to sneeze in public is either in your elbow or in your shirt. It stops the spread of germs to the hands. Please help us cut back on germs by practicing this at home. Wash hands after every time your child sneezes or “uses a Kleenex.”

Take home folders: Please check your child’s folder every day. Some papers will need to be signed and returned to school in your child’s folder. The folder will be our main source of everyday communication. Your child’s behavior report will be marked daily, please initial beside it.

Weekly Newsletter:  I will be sending home a weekly newsletter with important dates and information. Please keep this in a place where you can check it daily.

Field Trips: There will be several field trips this year. Parents are encouraged to attend. We will let you know about dates in advance. There may be times where chaperones are limited due to space.

Family Picture: Please send a family photo. Include everyone that lives in the house. We will make a “Family Photo Wall” for the housekeeping area. This will give the children a sense of belonging. If you need us to scan the photo and return it, please send us a note. We plan on returning the photo at the end of the year, but it will be in the hands of children every day, so don’t send anything too precious.
