Math Differentiated Instruction
In our classroom, we use a math workshop approach which incorporates flexible student groupings. We start each chapter with a pre-test of upcoming skills. Basis the individual student's performance on the pre-test, he or she will be placed within an appropriate group to best support individual needs. Flex groups change daily. The dynamic composition truly differentiates to each student's individual needs for each math skill.
Fact Fluency
In fourth grade, students are required to practice multiplication/division math facts nightly, Monday through Thursday. We utilize a weekly fact fluency contract provided to the students Monday, to be turned in the following Monday. The link for the contract can be found below. The expectation is that students demonstrate proficiency by the end of fourth grade by successfully completing a minimum of 67 out of 80 problems in a timed, three-minute test for each multiplication and division. Automaticity with basic facts is a key to success.

Math Program
We are using the new math program called Go Math! by Harcourt. Go Math is an excellent, comprehensive program which reflects all Common Core Standards for mathematics instruction. Go Math provides students with many levels at which to practice their math skills from concrete representations through abstract ideas. The program also embraces a built-in problem solving component through the use of the bar model method.
