SUPPLIES

The following supplies are required for this class.

Binder or notebook for class notes and handouts.

Loose-leaf paper.  All homework and other assignments MUST be completed on loose-leaf paper or typed.

Blue or black ink pens.  Lab reports must be written in ink.

Pencils

A scientific calculator capable of performing exponential or scientific notation.  Graphing calculators may not be used on tests.

Graph paper.  You will probably need about 25 sheets.

Class fees:  $5.00 for lab supplies (cash only, exact change)

  GRADES

Tests will comprise around 80% of your grade, so passing your tests will be essential.  The remaining 20% of your grade will come from a variety of formative assessments.  In the last grading period, a cumulative exam will be given that is worth 20% of your grade.  Generally, you will take one test per week.  Cheating on any test or assignment will result in a score of zero and a discipline referral.

Late assignments and projects will receive a 25% point deduction per class period.  After 3 days, the assignment will not be accepted.  Projects will not be accepted after the project test day, and you will receive a zero score at that point.  Projects must be at school even if you are absent on the due date.  Projects may be turned in early.

RECOVERY PROGRAM OFFERINGS Assessment Recovery is a type of classroom intervention that allows students to recover a failing grade on a summative assessment. It is offered to on-level students only.

3. Students who score below 35% on an assessment will need teacher permission to participate in recovery opportunities.

4. Remediation is required before students may attempt assessment recovery. This remediation can be offered on an individual basis by working directly with the student’s teacher or through the free daily tutoring as outlined on the NISH tutoring schedule.

5. The highest re-score that can be attained through assessment recovery is a 75% C.

6. Students are only allowed one (1) opportunity to recover an assessment.

CLASS BEHAVIOR

In order to make the most of the time we have in class, I expect the following behavior from you:

Ÿ  Do not disrupt the class.

Ÿ  To ask a question or say something in class, raise your hand and wait to be called on.

Ÿ  Students should be alert and should actively participate in the lessons by answering questions when called on, asking questions related to the lesson, completing assignments, etc.  Sleeping in class is not tolerated.

Ÿ  Conduct yourself in a manner that shows respect for yourself, the teacher and your fellow students.

Ÿ  No eating or drinking is allowed in the classroom.

Ÿ  Class begins when the tardy bell rings.  Be seated and ready to work by that time.

Ÿ  Class ends when the bell rings.  Students will remain seated at their desks until that time.

Ÿ  Bring your book and all class materials, particularly your calculator, to class each day.

Ÿ  All school rules will be enforced at all times in my class.
