PHYSICAL EDUCATION

GRADES 4-6

During the year, students will begin to apply skills learned in the lower grades to more structured activities. There is more of an emphasis on team sports. Depending on the grade, students may be exposed to: soccer, football, lacrosse, floor hockey, volleyball, badminton, basketball, ultimate Frisbee, wiffle ball or softball. Other activities will include track and field, gymnastics, dance and cooperative games. All grades will also participate in the “Physical Best Fitness Test.”

Grading System:

Participation: 30%. Students are required to dress appropriately and be prepared for class. Sneakers are required and no jewelry may be worn. They also need to actively participate in all activities. This will be a weekly grade.

Skill/Game Play: 30%. Students will demonstrate ability to perform a skill and apply skills to a game setting.

Homework/Tests: 20%. Students are given one week to complete homework assignments. Study guides are given out and reviewed in class and then tests are given the next week. One optional extra credit assignment will be given each marking period.

Sportsmanship: 20%. Students need to listen and follow directions. They also need to demonstrate cooperation and good sportsmanship.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Pyrzynski and Mr. Steidl
