What is Intervention?

Intervention is a place where students who are working below benchmark or below grade level receive additional support.  Students come to intervention for reading, math, or maybe even both subjects.  Students receive one-on-one small group instruction on what they are learning in class.  We work with your child's teacher on skills he/she may be struggling with.  We reteach, review, and practice certain skills to help your child grow to reach benchmark or grade level success.

How Do We Identify Intervention Students?

Students are screened using Acadience Reading at the beginning of the year.  Students who are below benchmark or below grade level are eligible to attend Intervention.  Through teacher recommendation and their Acadience Reading scores, students are selected to attend Intervention.

When Do Students Receive Intervention?

Students attend Intervention during their regular PE time.  They are not pulled out during class time.  This allows the to receive all of the instruction required by the St. Landry Parish School Board as well as the Louisiana Department of Education. Students receive 60 minutes of intervention a day in either reading or math.  Each week students will receive a minimum of 120 minutes in each subject.  This intervention time is in addition to their regular classroom instructional time.

How Are Students Assessed for Growth?

Students are accessed through Progress Monitoring once a month.  Students are screened by the teacher to assess their growth.  Their growth is discussed with their teacher as well as the administrators at school.

What Do We Use In Intervention?

We use a plethora of Tier 2 materials.  We gather materials that are not used in the classroom setting to reinforce skills being taught.  For K-2 reading, we use materials based on the Science of Reading research.  For 3-4 reading, we use comprehension and vocabulary practice as well as iReady Learning Path.  For K-4 math, we use practice based on the Louisiana Student Standards.

We truly enjoy working with our Intervention students.  We love to see their growth.  If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us.
