Accelerated Reader is a very important tool we use here at school, and that you can use at home.

Most books at the first grade level are worth 0.5 (half a point) each. Some higher books (like chapter books) can be worth 1.0 (a whole point). If a student earns a 100% they get all 0.5. For an 80% they earn 0.4, 60%- 0.3, 40% and below they earn no points. Student's AR goals are individualized point goals based on their previous quarter's performance. If students meet their point goal with an 85% or higher average test score, they will get to attend our AR party each quarter.

Parents can sign up to receive an e-mail every time their child takes an AR test and view their score. Please visit https://hosted104.renlearn.com/736819/HomeConnect/Login.aspx for more information.

Students have time to read during the school day, and can be ready to test on a book that they have been reading. I will allow students to take an AR test without the AR folder being signed if I believe that they have shown mastery of the book.

Every Friday, I will update the goal sheet in the AR folders. Please view and sign this page weekly to stay informed on your child's progress with AR.

The attachment is a level guide that shows the AR colors. 0.1-0.9 is Kindergarten level, 1.0-1.9 is first grade, 2.0-2.9 is second grade, and so on. Each quarter students will take the STAR reading assessment and that will update their AR level (color). AR book level and color list.doc
