EXTRA CREDIT:  Once a marking period, students can complete their choice of extra credit assignment for 10 points added to their lowest grade.  Assignments are due on or before the last day of the marking period and late submissions will not be accepted.  Students may submit their work early.

 

 

 

 

Marking Period 4 Extra Credit Choices (due on or before 6/7)

 

Choice 1: Dragon Genetics

Complete the graphic organizer on page 2 for your dragon and then create an accompanying picture on page 4.  You may choose any genotypes you like, but your phenotypes and accompanying picture must match the key on page 1.  You may create an electronic dragon drawing or do one on paper and submit a picture of it.

 

  • Electronic dragon: Draw in Notability and attach screenshot or pdf with your page 2.
  • Paper dragon (submit a picture with your page 2):  Your picture can be cut and pasted from the parts on page 3 if you have a printer and want to create the dragon on paper.  You may also draw your dragon freehand on paper.  Either way, please add some color to your dragon!

 

Choice 2:  Current Events

 

Read and analyze a current events science article and complete the attached sheet (hard copy available in class in the Turn In/Absent Crate):  Current Events Science Extra Credit. Your response may be typed or neatly handwritten.  You must write in complete sentences, and complete both sides of the page.  The following are a list of student-friendly news sources you could use (magazines and newspapers are also good sources):

To earn the 10 points for Choice 1, you must complete two of the following choices (hard copies in class except the clues for option 1):

 

  1. Whodunnit? Chemical Reactions - Use the clues here to complete the paper scoresheet.
  2. Balancing Challenge - Complete  EC Choice 2 Balancing Chem Equations.pdf  (you may use PhET simulation to help or remind you how to do this).
  3. Color by Number Worksheet - Answer the questions and color the picture.  EC Choice 3 ChemicalReactionsColorbyNumber.pdf.

Marking Period 1 Extra Credit Choices:

Choice 1:  Elemental Spelling

 

Use the elements of the periodic table to spell out a phrase or sentence (get as close as you can) electronically (PicCollage, Notability, etc.) or on a piece of construction paper or small posterboard.  See me if you need paper.  Your work must include at least 12 elements and be colorful and neat -- use a ruler or Post-its for your squares.  Include the name of the element, its atomic number, and its symbol.  Use a ruler to make your squares.
