Meet Your Teacher
Hi, I’m Mr. Matera and I am your teacher this year for 4th grade. I have been living here in Florida for 11 years now. I am originally from Long Island, New York where I was born and raised. I moved here at the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year with my wife and my son Evan. He will be 12 years old this year! Since living here we have made 3 new additions to our family, my daughter Rebekah (she's 8) and my youngest son Brandon he is 6 and our newest baby girl, Emily who is 4. I love to read Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, and all of the stories written by Roald Dahl, but My true passion is reading comic books especially Marvel Comics. I also love playing my PS4, watching movies (especially Marvel movies), drawing, swimming, eating, and I love Marvel Comics, but my #1 favorite thing to do is spending time with my family.
I have wanted to be a teacher since I was 7 years old and have been working in the field of education since I was 19 years old, (I’m 36 now), and I love every minute of it. It gives me great joy to see my students grow from the beginning of the year to the end and then getting to see them be successful in all other grades that they make it to.
This year in 4th grade you are now part of the Scholars Headquarters for Intermediate Education and Learning Department. You can call it S.H.I.E.L.D. for short. You will be pushed harder than you ever have before. We will be taking any skills that have learned from your previous years in school and enhancing them to make you the top agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. We will work on reading with a purpose, critical thinking, and solving real-world problems. We will study Florida's history and absorb as much science as humanly possible. You WILL be pushed to your limits and you WILL be successful. I look forward to a great year!
