Graded Components

Classwork

While homework and tests play an important role in the learning process the majority of information acquisition occurs during our daily lessons in the classroom. This year we will be creating “Interactive Notebooks”.  Essentially each student will develop an organized information system useful for completing assignments. Notebook checks will be done periodically and count as a participation/preparedness grade.

Assessments

Assessments will include tests and project based assessments. Students will receive at least a week's notice before a chapter test to allow time to review and study concepts. Study guides will be developed by each student and reviewed prior to a chapter test.

Several projects and research reports will be assigned throughout the school year. Students will have some class time to work on the various projects and reports; however time outside of class must be dedicated in order to complete these assignments. I feel this will help students learn time management skills as well as become more independent learners. All project requirements and grading rubrics will be provided to the students when projects are assigned.

Attitudes in Science

Attitudes in Science is a new aspect of the grading system this year. It is essentially a participation grade focusing on the attitudes and actions of the students in response to the development of the processes occurring in the science classroom. Below are the grading criteria that will be used to assess this component.
