When learning a new language it is helpful to use it as much as possible.  This may be difficult if your family does not speak it, but here are some tips to make studying easier!

-Teach your mom/dad/brother/sister/grandma what you learned in class today.
-Make flash cards for your vocabulary.  You can go the old fashioned route and use index cards or be technologically savvy and make a power point review.  (This would be incredibly helpful when reviewing for midterms and finals)  There are also flash card "apps" for smartphones.
-Look over your notes every night.  It doesn't take long, just five or ten minutes will be beneficial.
-Attempt to have a conversation with a friend.  It can be as simple as "Hi, how are you"; just practicing speaking aloud will give you confidence.
-Look at ingredients on packages.  See if they are in another language.  If they are in Spanish, see how much of it you can understand.  Then tell someone in  your house what it says.
-Turn on the Spanish channel for a few minutes.  You probably won't understand everything that is being said, but see what you can understand, especially on commercials.
-If something doesn't make sense, make sure you ask about it in class.  If it still doesn't make sense, come see me for extra help!
