Physical Education Guidelines

PARTICIPATE—Do your best and forget the rest!

Students should remain on task and participate in all activities.

RESPECT—Treat others like you want to be treated.

It is crucial to demonstrate care and respect for the teacher, students, and equipment.

INCLUDE OTHERS—Physical education is a great time to develop social skills and responsibility. Bullying behavior will not be tolerated.

DRESS OUT—To preserve school uniform clothing and practice proper hygiene all students are required to wear the school approved PE uniform and athletic shoes.

ENJOY YOURSELF—It’s (mostly) all fun and games.

Find something fun in what you do!

PE Dress Code

PE uniforms (t-shirt and shorts) are purchased through the school office. Students must wear socks and athletic shoes with their uniform. If a student fails to wear a PE uniform, he/she will still be required to participate in class. The fourth time a student fails to dress out, he/she will receive an after school detention.

WOD

Class begins each day with a Workout of the Day (WOD). This fitness-based activity is designed to develop health-related physical fitness and prepare students for activity. To earn full credit students should begin the WOD on time and exert full effort to complete as many reps as possible. Students can earn one point each day for their WOD.

Written Work

At the beginning of each class health-related material will be discussed (i.e., body systems, exercise principles, vocabulary). Throughout the grading period a number of quizzes, worksheets, and graded assignments will be used for student assessment.

Sportsmanship

Students are expected to demonstrate respect and great sportsmanship during PE class (such as—including others, playing fair, following rules, staying on task, winning/losing appropriately, etc.). Failure to do so will result in a reduction of credit for sportsmanship (students can earn one point each day for sportsmanship).

Physical Skills

For each activity or sport a skill assessment will be given. Assessments will vary by activity and be graded based upon attempting and completing various physical skills.
