In Leonardo da Vinci's time not much as known about chemistry.  Individual elements were not known as they are today.  Instead, the general consensus was that everything was comprised of the four major creation elements - Earth, Air, Fire and Water.  The study of Alchemy was beginning to catch on around the world and alchemists worked fast and furiously trying to turn rocks into gold.  Frustratingly enough, no one ever succeeded.  However, other observations were beginning to take place within the efforts to create gold.  These observations of the behaviours of substances and how they reacted to each other eventually lead to what we know today as modern Chemistry.

This is going to be a fun and interesting year.  Chemistry will be a challenge for you as in continually builds on skill at a time, one on top of the other.  Therefore, it is important that you keep up with your assignments and materials each and every day.  That will be accomplished this year with the upkeep of your science notebook.  In addition, you can check this web page periodically for updates and important information.

   See you in class!
