WIDA Placement Testing Information:

WIDA W-APT

The W-APT aligned to the WIDA ELP Standards and ACCESS for ELLs is designed to provide baseline information that will measure and determine a student's English Language proficiency. All scoring of the W-APT is completed on site by the test administer.

Main Purposes

1- To identify students who may be candidates for English as a Second Language (ESL) and/or bilingual services not offered at the Elementary Level for Middle Township Public Schools.

2- To determine the academic English language proficiency level of students new to a school or to the U.S. school system in order to determine appropriate levels and amounts of instructional services.

WIDA Screener

The WIDA Screener is an English language proficiency assessment given to incoming students in Grades 1–12 to assist educators with the identification of students as English language learners (ELL’s). The purpose of this assessment is to help educators make decisions about whether a student is a candidate for English language support services.

As a flexible, on-demand language proficiency assessment, WIDA Screener can be administered at any time during the school year, depending on the needs of the district, school, teacher, or student.

The WIDA Screener is available as either a paper-based or on-line assessment. Due to COVID Restrictions, the Screener for now is only available on-line for students in grades 1-12! Both WIDA Screener Paper and WIDA Screener On-line assess the four language domains of Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing.

Purpose and Use

The purpose of the screening tests was designed to be used as:

  •  One of several criteria to determine eligibility for language support services
  •  An indicator of a student's language proficiency
  •  An aid to determining appropriate levels and amounts of instructional services
  •  A guide for tier placement on the ACCESS for ELL’s annual assessment

WIDA MODEL

The WIDA MODEL (Measure of Developing English Language) is a series of English language proficiency assessments for Kindergarten through Grade 12. MODEL can be used by educators as an identification/placement assessment for newly enrolled ELLs and/or as an interim progress monitoring assessment for possible exit with multiple measures.
