Book Requirements: 1. Choose one of the following books

Bissinger: Friday Night Lights: A Town, a Team and a Dream c2000 nonfiction
The story of a high school football team in Texas and their struggle to win the championship in 1988.

Booth: Tyrell c2007 urban fiction

Dessen: Just Listen c2006 realistic fiction
Isolated from friends who believe the worst because she has not been truthful with them, sixteen-year-old Annabel finds an ally in classmate Owen, whose honesty and passion for music help her to face and share what really happened at the end-of-the-year party that changed her life.

  Written Requirements:

2. Written summary: Write a summary of the story that includes these elements- title, author, exposition, conflict, rising actions, climax, falling actions, and resolution. Use your plot map to help you.  This summary can be written, typed, or placed on note cards. Be sure to label your elements.

3. Vocabulary puzzle: Find at least 10 words that you or others might not know. Write the definitions for them. Design a word puzzle with them, such as a word search or scramble word. You may use a website, such as http://www.discoveryeducation.com/free-puzzlemaker/ , that will create your puzzle for you. Remember to print out the answer key—or make one. Turn in your puzzle a day earlier, but no later than the morning before you present, so I can make copies for your classmates.

Diorama Requirements:

4. Diorama: Build a miniature diorama/stage setting/shadow box for a scene in the book. Be as detailed as you can. This can be in a shoe box, on a sturdy piece of cardboard, or anything else that will allow you to set up a scene.

The scene you choose must be important to the story. For instance, a diorama of his cute kitty drinking milk would probably not be an important scene.

Make the scene as detailed as you can. Be creative, but your scene must clearly represent the scene you tell us about in your paragraph below.

Write the chapter or page numbers of where the scene occurred in the book on the diorama.

Write a descriptive paragraph (6-8 sentences) telling about the scene and its importance to the story plot.

Effort, neatness, and creativity will be included in your grade.

Presentation Requirements:

7. Summary: Include- title, author, exposition, conflict, important rising actions, climax, falling actions, and resolution. You may use your summary from #2, but do not read it.

8. Diorama: Explain your diorama and read the descriptive paragraph you wrote about it.

9. Rating: Rate your book on a scale of 0-5, with 5 being “I loved it!” Tell us why you would or would not recommend it to others. Write on your Diorama somewhere.

10. Voice: make sure you speak loud enough for everyone to hear.

11. Eye contact: look up at the audience; do not have your head down and read during the entire presentation

12. Length: Your entire presentation should last a minimum of 3 minutes to a maximum of 5 minutes. If you feel you need longer then you must get the approval of Mrs. Breaux first.

13. Organization: You should be well organized BEFORE your presentation. Make sure all papers, materials, props, etc. are ready and are placed in the order that you will need them during the presentation. Points will be deducted if you need to run to your locker or you are missing them.
