Homework Policy

*Read for 20 minutes each night

*Your child should be reading his/her Accelerated Reader (AR) book

Reading fluently and developing reading comprehension skills are the main reading goals for this school year. Therefore, your child’s homework assignment is to read for 20 minutes each night. It is extremely important that your child read books on his/her independent reading level. In addition, parents are strongly encouraged to read aloud to their child. Studies have shown that reading aloud to young children, particularly in an engaging manner, promotes emerging literacy and language development, supports the relationship between child and parent, develops vocabulary, improves ability to learn to read, and - perhaps most important - fosters a lifelong love of books and reading.
