    Welcome to 1st Grade!

Communication

It is my belief that positive interaction between parent and teacher strengthens the feelings of support that all children need to be successful. My goal is to create an atmosphere of open communication regarding your child’s progress and behavior both at home and school. Each child is responsible for bringing his/her daily folder to and from school every day. This folder will be used to transport classwork, notes from teacher/parent, school flyers, and weekly learning objectives. PLEASE make sure you empty the folder EVERY night. In addition to the daily folder there will also be a gold communication folder that will go home the first day of the week. The communication folder will contain any graded papers.

Dismissal

During the first days of school we will document and establish your child’s dismissal routine.  Once this routine have been established, it will not change without express written instructions from the parent.  If you need to make temporary or permanent changes, you must put the change in writing and send the written change to school with your child.  We will not accept any verbal request.

Students may not be signed out after 1:40 p.m.  If you need to pick up your child prior to 2:10 p.m. dismissal time, please make arrangements to arrive before 1:40 p.m.

Homework

Homework will consist of 20 minutes of nightly reading with your child. Research shows that children who spend just 20 minutes a day reading develop critical reading skills, and it is these children who read that most that read the best.

Specials

We are on an 8 day rotation for our specials.  The days are labeled on your school calendar.  On Day 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8 we will have PE with coach Mead & Coach Palow. On Day 3 we will have science with Ms. Swyers.  On Day 5 we will have art with Mrs. Hopkins.  On Day 7 we will have music with Mr. Seeberger.
