3rd Grade

Some Important Information:

In 3rd Grade music, we contine on the foundational elements we learned in 2nd Grade. These skills include becoming:

Tuneful (to have tunes in their heads and learn to coordinate their voices to sing those tunes)

Beatful (to feel the pulse of music and how that pulse is grouped into twos and threes)

Artful (to be moved by music in the many ways music can elicit an emotional response)

We will begin to year long curriculum on Recorder Karate.  Students will learn how to play a wind instrument each month peform a playing test for a Recorder Belt.  Students will do this all year long until they receive their black belts and become recorder masters.  We wil also include folk dancing to different styles of music from all over the world & learn to read music notation using Conversational Solfege curriculum.

Students achieve this by using an eight part musical workout routine:

1. Pitch Exploration (Vocal Warm-ups)
2. Song Fragments (Echo Songs & Call-and-Response Songs)
3. Simple Songs  (Sing whole songs independently)
4. Arioso (Child-created Tunes)
5. SongTales (Musical stories)
6. Movement Exploration (Develop body coordination)
7. Movement for Form and Expression (Experience the expressive qualities in music)
8. Movement for the Beat (Keeping a beat in groups of two or three)
