** Welcome Back to School!

** This marking period we will be reading "Of Mice and Men," followed by "Wednesday Wars" (independent reading).

Your child should be reading daily. In addition to reading, your child has daily Newsela articles they should be doing on their Chromebook.

Language Arts/Literacy encompasses a correlated study of reading, language development, literature and writing based upon the NJ Student Learning Standards. We will explore a great number of resources to enhance reading skills.  This will include short stories, novels, poetry, essays, prose and informational text.  The content of this course will allow students to explore concepts in greater depth while offering challenging experiences in a supportive and encouraging environment.

The outcome... independent and confident life-long readers.

Throughout the year, we will work on effective test taking strategies that will help to increase ability to become a critical reader and thinker.  Our students will take the computerized NJSLA exam in March and again in May.  My goal is to make the students both comfortable with the format and confident with the material to ensure success.

I am looking forward to a productive and fun-filled year.
