Grade 8 Math Student Contract

Homework Policy:

Homework will be assigned each night.  All work must be shown in order for student to receive credit!  Homework will be checked daily.  Each student will begin the marking period with a grade of 100.  Each missing homework assignment will result in a deduction of 5 points.  No homework assignment will be accepted late, with the exception that the student was absent on the day the homework was assigned.  If student was absent on the day the homework was assigned, he/she will be given the same number of days absent to complete their missing work.

 

Grading Policy:

  • Tests …………….. 65%
  • Quizzes …………. 15%
  • Homework …….  15%
  • District Assessment 5%

***Each marking period, students will be given a District Assessment which will be a cumulative assessment.***

 

Standardized Test Review:

Students taking Grade 8 Mathematics will be taking the Grade 8 Mathematics NJSLA and students enrolled in zero period Algebra at BHS will be taking the Algebra 1 NJSLA.  All students will complete various sample NJSLA questions throughout the course of the school year as well as practice modeling and reasoning problems from various resources such as Illustrative Mathematics.

The Board of Education updated Regulation 5410: Promotion and Retention in April 2018:

 Students who are in danger or failing Math after any progress report or report card are required to attend a zero period Mathematics support class at their school on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings.  A letter from the mathematics department will be issued.  A Student may exit the zero period support class if they earn a 78 or better on the next marking period report card. Students who fail to maintain regular attendance (65% of eligible classes) in the morning sessions will not be eligible for summer school and will be retained if the student fails Math for the school year.

  • Come to class on time every day
  • Come to class prepared every day (Textbook, Notebook, Pencil)
  • Be an active member of the class (Participate!)
  • Complete the daily homework assignments
  • Work with and respect all members of the learning community
