English IV Final Project
Task: Complete in-depth research on a time period in British history.
Point Value: approximately 400 points
Procedure:
- Select a narrow topic. (Due Wednesday, November 16, 2011 - Worth 15 points)
- Select a time period from British history.
- Select an author representative of the time period.
- Select a work by this author as a prime example of the time period.
- Conduct research. (Due Monday, November 28, 2011 - Worth approximately 85 points)
- Research the time period. What are its characteristics – historical and literary? *Must have at least 2 sources; at least one must be a print source.
- Research the author. Locate biographical information. How did the author’s life or the time period in which he/she lived affect his/her writing? *Must have at least 2 sources, at least one must be a literary criticism.
- Research the work. Why is the work a prime example of the time period? *Must have at least one source; this must be at literary criticism.
- Produce a final product.
- Powerpoint Presentation (Due Friday, December 9, 2011 – Worth approximately 150 points)
i. Slide 1 – Title Slide
ii. Slide 2-3 – Historical Context Slide
iii. Slide 4-5 – Cultural Context Slide – What is the difference between historical and cultural? Research it.
iv. Slide 6-7 – Literary Characteristics Slide – What were common characteristics of the literature?
v. Slide 8-9 - Author/Work Slide – Who were prominent authors and what were their works?
vi. Slide 10 – Bibliography Slide – Lists sources of information.
vii. Must include copies of all references used. If you are using a book, I only need a copy of the title page.
- Structural Analysis (Due Friday, December 16, 2011 – Worth approximately 150 points)
i. Answer the question “Why is this work a prime example of the time period?”.
ii. Must quote from the criticism and the text using proper MLA format with a correctly formatted Works
Cited page.
iii. Must include copies of all references used in addition to the text.
