Procedures for Gifted English

Classroom Expectations

All appropriate behavior falls under these four simple behavior guidelines.

1.    N – Neutralize Negativity

2.    I – Involvement in School

3.    S – Show Respect for Others (Sleeping is considered disrespectful to me, and, therefore, is not allowed.)

4.    H – Have Self-Control

What happens if I don't follow the classroom expectations?  Consequences:

1.  Student/Teacher Conference

2.  Contact Parent

3.  Office Referral Form

4.  Office Determines Further Consequences

If serious violations occur, students will immediately earn an office referral.  Consequences 1 and 2 will be skipped.

Entering the Classroom:

1. Enter quietly and sit down in your desk.

2. Turn in homework and sharpen pencil.  Return to

   desk.

3. Take out any materials needed for class.

4. Complete any assignment posted on the board.

Turning in Assignments:

1.Make sure the work has been done on loose-leaf paper. Notebook

paper with fringes will not be accepted.

2. Make sure your paper is headed correctly.

     Name                            Date

     Subject                         Block

3. Always staple multiple pages.

   4. Place in the Daily Work file for your subject.

Late Assignment Policy:

1.Daily homework assignments and daily work assignments are NEVER accepted late.

2. Long term projects and assignments are accepted late at the penalty of one letter grade per day late.

3.You will not be allowed to print on the classroom printer nor

will you be excused from class to print an assignment. You are

expected to have your work printed before coming to class. If

it is not printed (even if you have submitted it

electronically), it will be considered late.

What to do if You Finish Early:

1. Work on other school assignments

2. Play educational games

3. Free-reading

Cleaning Work Area:

   1. No materials are to be left under or around your seat at the

end of the class period. If you leave any textbooks in class,

they will be returned to the library and you will be

responsible for checking them out again. Until you are able to

check them out, you are still responsible for your work.

   2. Class supplies should be returned to their designated

      location.

   3. Personal supplies should be placed in your book sack.

   4. Trash should be thrown into the trashcan.  The custodians are

      NOT your personal maids.

End of Class Dismissal:

1. Wait for the teacher’s directions to begin packing.

2. Remain seated until the teacher dismisses you.

3. The teacher will dismiss you, not the bell.

When You are Absent:

1. Check with the teacher for missed assignments/activities.

2. Arrange to copy class notes from another student.

3. Arrange to make up any tests and/or quizzes in 5th block within

three days of returning to school.

4. Turn in all missed assignments to the teacher within three

school days unless other arrangements have been made.

Extra Point Assignment Policy:

1. As a rule, extra point assignments are not given.

2. Take advantage of them when they are given.

3. Work hard so that you will not need them.

Electronic Policy:

1.For an assignment to be considered on time, you must have

already submitted it electronically by the time you arrive in

class(if that is required for the assignment). You must also

submit a hardcopy of all work even if you are required to

submit it electronically. If you do not fulfill both

  requirements, it is late.
