About 3rd Grade

Literacy in third grade focuses on improving reading skills by working on new vocabulary, decoding new words and improving reading fluency. We expand and develop our reading by predicting outcomes; inferencing; drawing conclusions, finding the main idea and understanding the author's purpose for writing.

Our goal in math is to become proficient in using whole numbers to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. As well as understanding fractions, measurment and geometry. The "Go Math!" series is used for the instruction of Math along with many manipulatives.

Writer's Workshop is another important component in our classroom. Students keep a Writing Folder in which they learn to become skilled, confident writers.

In 3rd grade, the students are developing their writing abilities through personal narratives, writing letters to penpals, creating books, poetry, and studying new vocabulary.

All these skills are reinforced by integrating science and social studies throughout the daily lessons. We're looking forward to a great year!
