HEAD COACH – Mr. Black, (x45052) E-MAIL – [email protected]

ASST. COACH-Mr. Satchell, (x45022) E-MAIL – [email protected]

1)      You understand that your participation is a revocable privilege and not a school requirement.  Therefore, you agree to abide by all Camden City School District rules, and all school, classroom, and team rules at all times.

2)      You are aware that you are a student first, a student second, and an athlete third.  If there is a need for academic support/extra help (especially after school) please communicate directly with your coaches and in advance.  Do not wait until it is too late. District eligibility requirements will be enforced.  Please understand Octavius V. Catto School’s desires that every participating student-athlete maintain at least a B average. In addition, certain academic concerns may result in appropriate disciplinary/character building action, suspension, and/or removal from the team.

3)      You are expected to be at all practices (this includes film sessions) meetings and games on time.  Every second of practice and game time is valuable!  Only parents may communicate all reasons for absences by letter, email or voice mail by contacting the coaches or principals at the above addresses.  Appropriate action may be taken if a violation occurs which may include, but not limited to, a reduction in playing time or a modification in the playing rotation.

4)      You must change in the locker room or boys bathroom only (not in the gym) and be prepared and ready for practices and games as scheduled.  Please plan accordingly.    Generally, you will be notified in advance of most changes in practice/game times with the exception of unforeseen changes in gym usage/availability (e.g. school closings, assemblies or any other school or administrative decision).

5)      You are expected to compete to the fullest extent while presenting yourself in a manner reflective of a highly respected championship team.  It is recommended that you encourage team members and embrace a team/family concept in all activities related to the Octavius V. Catto Basketball Team.

6)      Do not engage in any behavior or activity that can be detrimental to the team or your participation with the team.  Good sportsmanship will be expected at all times.  Foul language and derogatory remarks toward teammates and/or opponents, fans, coaches, etc. will not be tolerated.  Parents, relatives and friends are expected to honor this expectation and are not interfere with game and or practice instruction.

7)      Any and all uniforms are school property and must be handled with care.  No player, student or manager may keep any team paraphernalia.  A nominal and refundable uniform deposit may be required.

8)      Being a student-athlete does not exclude you from expectations/requirements for any class (including Health and PE)!

9)      Staying out of trouble is a major expectation. Conduct yourself within the school guidelines throughout the course of the day. Remember, after school activities are an extension of the school day.  Any complaints from teachers/administration will be discussed with the possibility of  appropriate discipline and character building action, suspension and/or removal from the team.

10)  Bus/travel decorum includes quiet “visualizing” travel to game competitions with earned privileged freedoms during the return trip.  Overt bus behavior, as we travel to a competition, is not welcomed!

11)  You are expected to have “pick-up” or walking arrangements from practice each day and from games all of which may end in the evening hours when it is dark.    Please make sure you communicate with your parents or guardians and let them know what time practice will end each day.  Games, which begin at 4PM, are generally over by 5:30PM.

12)  You will receive two copies of this handout.  You and your parents/guardians will be required to sign one copy and return it to a coach. The other copy is for your own records.

Any student-athlete, who wishes to participate on the Octavius V. Catto Basketball team must be willing to abide by these rules and expectations.  Understanding that you will be held to a higher standard of behavior and expectation as a student-athlete is a requirement.  If you feel you are prepared to make the commitment to the team and to the sport at this level, please print and sign your name, date, and return this form to me and keep a copy for your records.

Sincerely,

Mr. Black- Head Coach & Mr.  Satchell – Asst. Coach
